>> Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Back pain in early days of pregnancy is normal and is considered a sign of pregnancy. It is an indicator of the start of a beautiful phase of the life of a woman. Most pregnant women can identify slight pain in their backs in their early weeks of pregnancy. The degree of pain lessens to an extent after around 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Back pain that is normally reflected by muscle stretching in the right or left quadrant is because the supporting ligaments and disks become softer because of an increase in the progesterone level in the early weeks of pregnancy. In few cases the urinary infection in early weeks of pregnancy can also be the underlying cause. The added body weight and change in the point of center of gravity is also the cause of such pain.

Treatment for Back Pain In Early Pregnancy

The safest and easiest treatment for this problem is exercising. It is important to note that generally the medicines for pain in back are contraindicated during pregnancy.

Pelvic rocking, walking, bridgining ( by resting the back on floor and then lifting the hips), mini crunches and lifting the head after bending the knees are generally recommended exercise for such pain during early days of pregnancy. (These exercises should only be done after the consultation and recommendation of doctor). Any exercise or even a wrong posture may cause the pulling of a wrong muscle that is not good for the growing fetus. So it is important to consult an expert or do exercise only under strict medical supervision especially during pregnancy.

The right posture of body during pregnancy pays a key role in preventing and relieving from this type of pain. The right posture during pregnancy is to stand straight. This posture is even critical before pregnancy.

In the later weeks of pregnancy the cause of back pain is the added weight. The uterus grows in size, women try to pull her shoulders back to offset added belly weight. This results in a strain on back. This back pain in late pregnancy can be reduced by changing the sitting position more often and avoiding from standing for long hours.

Proper hours for resting and sleeping are also important for eliminating back pain. Pregnant women must avoid doing strenuous work and take proper time for relax. Yoga exercise is also helpful for relieving stress as well as pains in back and head.

In extreme cases of back pain doctors have you prescribe physiotherapy, special mattresses or massages. Add to Technorati Favorites Bookmark and Share
